
National Nursing Position Vacancy and Turnover Survey

AHCA has announced their a 2007 survey of direct care staff vacancy and turnover in nursing facilities. The findings will provide accurate and timely data about staffing for each state and our nation's nursing shortage. The 2007 Nursing Position Vacancy & Turnover survey questionnaire was mailed to every nursing facility during the week of November 12, 2007, with a request to complete and return the surveys to AHCA by December 14, 2007. Facility’s responses to this survey will be kept strictly CONFIDENTIAL. Results of this survey will be presented only in aggregate form; responses of a specific facility will not be disclosed. Nursing facilities' participation in this survey is crucial to ensure that AHCA and state affiliates have accurate, timely and meaningful data in advocating bothin Washington, DC and at the state level We are encouraging facility administrators to do your part for the long-term care profession by completing the survey. Results of AHCA’s 2002 survey can be viewed on the AHCA/NCAL website. The last AHCA vacancy and turnover survey conducted in 2002 revealed that Virginia had the highest DON turnover in the country at 142.7 percent. As a result of findings from that survey, a coalition led by the Virginia Health Care Association and MyInnerView facilitated a study of this issue to identify and analyze the root causes of the DON turnover in Virginia and to communicate findings and recommendations to policy makers, providers and educators.
