Train the Trainer Program for Medication Aides
VHCA (1/11/2008)
To help members meet the July 1st deadline for all medication aides working in assisted living facilities to be trained, tested and established on the Board of Nursing’s Medication Aide Registry, VHCA has scheduled a Train the Trainer program for February 26th in the VHCA office. The one-day, six-hour workshop will provide instructors of Registered Medication Aide Programs with program planning skills including an understanding of the regulatory requirements for Medication Aides in assisted living facilities, writing measurable learning objectives, organizing mandated curriculum, developing lesson plans, and evaluating learning of students. Participants will have an opportunity to observe, practice, and critique a variety of instructional strategies. All instructors of the approved Medication Aide Training Programs must hold current licenses as Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses or Pharmacists and must complete a Train the Trainer course for Medication Aide Training. Go to the VHCA website for additional information and on-line registration. The Board of Nursing has provided the following update on the status of the Medication Aide program. As of January 10, 2008, of the 16 individuals who were approved to take the exam, 14 successfully passed the exam and two failed. There are an additional 20 individuals who are approved but have not yet taken the exam.
