Medication Aide Program Update

At the March 18th Board of Nursing meeting it was reported that the medication aide program has received 579 applications from individuals applying to take the medication aide exam.  Of these, 75 individuals have passed the state medication aide exam, resulting in an 82% pass rate.  There are currently 95 approved program providers, with 8 pending applications.  As previously reported, a Budget Amendment passed, delaying the enforcement of regulations related to the registration of medication aides working in assisted living facilities until December 31, 2008.  This will allow assisted living facilities enough time to ensure medication aides are trained, tested and registered.

VHCA/VCAL has scheduled two one-day programs (April 10 & May 22) for Train the Trainer – for Registered Medication Aides.  More information and on-line registration can be found on the VHCA website.
