My InnerView Data Show Improved Care Quality in Nursing Homes
VHCA (5/22/2008)
A new independent statistical analysis from the applied research firm, My InnerView (MIV), find that a significant majority of U.S. consumers have high rates of satisfaction in regard to nursing home care. Fully 82 percent of consumers – residents and family members – report that their satisfaction with their facility is either “excellent” or “good,” and that they would recommend their facility to others. “Integrating the voices of residents, families, and employees into discussions about quality is a winning formula for every long term care stakeholder. Our effort to improve transparency on a variety of fronts is paying off, and we believe the voices of actual consumers must be considered when it comes to evaluating overall care quality – it is simply the right thing to do.” stated Bruce Yarwood, President and CEO of the American Health Care Association. The report is based on the largest dataset ever assembled about resident, family and employee satisfaction in America’s nursing homes. A total of 146,382 nursing home residents and their family members, and 161,908 nursing home employees in all fifty states and the District of Columbia responded to the national survey in 2007. 112 Virginia facilities participated in the My InnerView survey. “Quality improvement is a dynamic ongoing process – and its quantification must reflect the many variants that go into the delivery of care. The MIV data reflects a key component of the overall patient and family experience, and we will continue to emphasize that these opinions are highly relevant in determining a facility’s level of quality,” the AHCA President and CEO concluded.
