DMAS Releases MFP Introduction Memorandum
VHCA (6/12/2008)
The Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) is moving toward a July 1st implementation of the Money Follows the Person (MFP) project under which it plans to transition over four years approximately 1000 persons currently living in nursing facilities and institutions to community-based care. DMAS is currently awaiting final approval of the project plans from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. According to the Memorandum, the goals of the MFP project are threefold: Goal I: To provide individuals who live in nursing facilities, intermediate care facilities for person with mental retardation, and long-stay hospitals more informed choices and options about where they live and receive services. Goal II: To transition individuals from these institutions if they choose to live in the community. Goal III: To promote quality care through services that are person-centered, appropriate, and based on individual needs. DMAS plans to conduct training sessions for providers, including nursing facility personnel, in the summer and fall. VHCA will work with DMAS to coordinate and schedule these training sessions. For more information: The MFP Introduction Memorandum is available here. You may also find additional information regarding MFP through the DMAS website or you may visit the Olmstead site.
