CMS Approves Virginia's MFP Plan
VHCA (6/27/2008)
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on June 24th approved Virginia’s Money Follows the Person (MFP) Operational Protocol, and the Project is on schedule to start July 1. CMS liked the person-centered approach that Virginia used (i.e., writing the Protocol directly to the individuals and family members who might be interested in participating), and was very impressed with the number and variety of stakeholders who worked together over the past year to make it happen. Of particular interest, the final Protocol contains a benchmark that will measure the types of qualified residences into which individuals transition over the period of the Demonstration. The MFP Housing Work Group will work to develop the MFP Annual Housing and Transportation Action Plan to measures in this benchmark. VHCA is working with the Department of Medical Assistance Services on MFP training seminars for nursing facilities and assisted living facilities. VHCA will announce the seminars when the dates are finalized.
