Immigration Update
VHCA (8/1/2008)
All employers, including health care providers, must complete an I-9 form for new employees to ensure and document that each new employee hired is authorized to work in the United States. Visit the following links to view the current I-9 Form or the current handbook. As a complement to the I-9 form, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Social Security Administration (SSA) have developed an internet-based system, called E-Verify, that allows participating employers to electronically verify the employment eligibility of newly hired employees. E--Verify is free and voluntary and is the best means available for determining employment eligibility of new hires and the validity of their Social Security Numbers. Register for E-Verify here. AHCA is still waiting for a final rule on a possible "safe harbor" from liability under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). More information on this issue is available here.
