Notification Period Extended for Transportation Requests
VHCA (10/24/2008)
Effective November 3, the Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) has approved requiring five days notice when requesting transportation for a single trip. This change occurs beginning Monday, November 3, but callers will not be denied trips by LogistiCare the first or second time they call with less than five days notice. The reason for this change is to improve the reliability of transportation by assigning trips sooner to a transportation provider. If the provider cannot accept your trip, it must be returned to LogistiCare within 24 hours for assignment to another provider. The five day change gives LogistiCare an extra three days to find a provider for the trip. This new five-day requirement does not apply to Standing Orders for day support, adult day health care, dialysis and other services that individuals attend at least three times weekly. There are several exemptions to this change as outlined in a recently developed announcement provided by DMAS. For nursing facilities, if a resident’s physician requests that a follow-up visit be scheduled in less than five days, this constitutes an Urgent Trip and is not covered by the five-day requirement. Please contact your LogistiCare regional office or the Call Center if you have questions not fully covered by the DMAS announcement. Please contact Tom Lawson, Broker Contract Manager at DMAS, about other transportation questions or concerns by email or call 804.786.9092.
