We Need Your Help

We have heard from VHCA members who have already contacted their legislators to express their concerns about the potential effects of additional budget cuts on their residents, staff, and facilities.  Please make your contacts as soon as possible.  Legislators’ schedules will fill up quickly as the Session gets closer.

VHCA’s lobbying staff is continuing to meet with Governor Kaine’s Staff and legislators who serve on the House Appropriations and Senate Finance committees.  If your legislator serves on one of these committees, it is critical that you also contact them to ensure that they understand the impact of budget cuts on your facility and also understands the benefits your company brings to the legislative district.

As you are aware, in the 2008 General Assembly Session Virginia nursing facilities were cut more than the Governor and legislators intended due to a lower than expected Medicaid inflation factor released after the General Assembly adjourned.  This unexpected reduction amounted to an additional $6 million over the $12 million reduction approved by the General Assembly to help balance the State Budget last Session.  Recent cost data that VHCA received from member facilities show that the update factor used was significantly lower than true operating cost increases have been so far in 2008 and even in 2007.

Legislators listen most closely to people and facilities from their home districts.  It is imperative that you add your voice to VHCA’s and let your legislators know and understand what the impact of further reductions would mean to your residents, staff, and facility.  Click here for talking points developed to assist you in these critical discussions.

Please advise Mary Lynne Bailey concerning the results of your contacts with your legislators.
