VCAL SYMPOSIUM HIGHLIGHTS AL ISSUES

One of the major presentations at the upcoming VCAL Symposium on June 18th will describe legal requirements of HIPAA for assisted living facilities.  Peter Mellette, Esq. with the law firm of Hancock, Daniel, Johnson & Nagle, PC, will discuss HIPAA, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, enacted in August 1996.  Participants will learn more about administrative requirements, security compliance, business associate agreements and Resident Rights under HIPAA.  Those attending will receive a Model Business Associate Agreement  and a suggested design for training your staff on HIPAA requirements.  Other topics will include marketing, an update on federal regulation of ALFs and management strategies for addressing common clinical problems experienced by the older resident.
