ASSESSMENT REGULATIONS PROPOSED

The Department of Social Services (DSS) published proposed regulations in the Virginia Register on March 22nd related to assessments in assisted living facilities (ALFs).  Included in the proposal are requirements for training and specific qualifications for assessors, Community Services Boards responsibilities for assessment and reassessment of its clients for placement in ALFs, and notification to local Departments of Social Services of discharge or death of a resident.  Additional changes are incorporated in the proposal along with clarifying language and definitions.  Public comments may be submitted until May 21, 2004 to Marjorie Marker, Family Services Specialist, Department of Social Services, 7 North Eighth Street, Richmond, VA 23219, by fax 804.726.7895 or e-mail to majorie.marker@dss.virginia.gov.  Members are encouraged to review the proposal for any unintended consequences that could result from proposed changes.  Particular attention should be paid to the requirement for completion of assessor training and notification to local departments of the discharge or death of a resident within 10 days.  A copy of the regulations is available on the VCAL website at www.vhca.org/vcal/members/regulatory.htm
